It’s official – Xmas is not cancelled – catering contract change postponed till April 2017

Although it’s not the end of the story,  69 families will now be facing Christmas with a much happier outlook following the welcome announcement that the early termination of GCU’s contract with Cordia is…well… terminated.

The staff were told just before lunch today, that the early termination of the catering contract with Cordia is off the table, and jobs should be guaranteed till April.

Campus unions were overjoyed to hear this change of heart, with Nick McKerrell, chair of the Combined Union Committee saying:

“At last management have seen sense.  The united pressure of staff (GCU and Cordia) and students show bad  decisions can be overturned.  People power works.  Our hard working catering staff can enjoy their Christmas.  

We still have to be wary though and the campus unions will continue our campaign to bring staff in house so this threat can’t happen again.”
