Within 24 hours of its launch, over 1000 people had signed the petition in favour of talks to ensure no jobs are lost from catering staff at GCU following the university’s early termination of their Cordia contract, and Cordia’s apparent disregard of their obligations to the same staff, telling them ‘After 15th December you will no longer be our concern’.
These on-line signatures joined the several thousand signed by a continuous stream of students queuing up at the petition table in the refectory to add their voice for common sense to prevail at GCU.
Meetings are now taking place between staff and unions to look at the next step in escalating the protests against these threatened heartless pay-offs. MSPs and MPs have also raised concern about what has happened, and have pledged their support for a positive resolution to the issue.
By Monday morning, the petition was reaching 1200 signatures. It can be signed here
